Algy F. Giles, Jr., 83, died Friday, March 10, 2023 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional.  He had been making his home in Somerset County for the past three years.

Born in Galveston, Texas on September 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Algy Fred Giles, Sr. and Cecil Eula Cole Giles.

Mr. Giles had a passion for aviation from a very young age.  He was a pilot and worked in many capacities in aviation including serving during the Vietnam Era in the US Air Force as an airman and weatherman, was an air traffic controller, and finally retired as an inspector for the FAA.

He is survived by two daughters, Deneene Giles Holland and husband Jamie of Crisfield and Gigi Ann Giles Crow and husband Jeff of Crestwood, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Robbie Holland and wife Mandi, Jacob Holland and wife Kali, William Holland, Kaylee Sutton and husband Alex, Joshua Crow, Christopher Crow and Abigail Crow; four great-grandchildren, David J. Holland, Cohen Sutton, Willow Sutton, and Lennox Sutton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis J. Carrico Giles on October 24, 2019; and his son, Algy F. "Chipper" Giles, III on May 20, 2006.

A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, June 9, 2023 at 10AM at Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dove Pointe, 1225 Mt. Hermon Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.
