Obituary

Alan Dale "Scissors" Eskridge, 81, formerly of Tangier, VA, died Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born on Tangier June 30, 1936, he was a son of the late William and Mildred Pruitt Eskridge.

He worked as a waterman, tankerman on a barge, and later for a dredging company until his retirement in 1994 due to his declining health.   He loved animals, country music, seafood- especially oysters, and spending time with his grandchildren.  He also gave generously to numerous organizations including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, Shriners, and he sponsored numerous children from around the globe.  He loved everyone at Tawes Nursing Home and his "tell it like it is" personality will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sue Eskridge of Fruitland; children, Rebecca Eskridge Crutchley and husband Barry of Melfa, VA and Warren Eskridge and wife Manjula of Salisbury; step-children, Karen Hunter and husband Willie of Fruitland and Bonnie Lyman of Sparrows Point, MD; grandchildren, Priya and Liam Eskridge; step-grandchildren, Crystal Maddox, and Michael and Josh Hill; brothers and sisters, Ira Lee Eskridge and wife Doris of Tangier, Shannon Bunner and husband Gene of Salisbury, Mona Marshall of Tangier, William Eskridge, Jr. of Tangier, and James "Ooker" Eskridge and wife Irene of Tangier; and several step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two step-sons, John and Jeff Yuhas; a brother, Cpl. Warren Reed Eskridge, killed in action in Vietnam in 1969; a granddaughter, Aubrey Grace in 1999; a sister-in-law, Pam Eskridge; and a brother-in-law, Aub Marshall.

A memorial service will be Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 2 PM at Crisfield Church of God with the Rev. John Thorne officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tawes Nursing Home Activities Fund, 201 Hall Highway; or Church of God, 134 Maryland Avenue; both Crisfield, MD 21817.
