Robert Lee Insley, Sr., 84, of Crisfield, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born on June 29, 1928 in Andrews, MD, he was a son of the late Samuel M. and Nellie G. Slacum Insley.
He was retired from the Somerset County Roads Dept. after 30 years of service.
His affiliations included the Crisfield Elks Lodge # 1044, Crisfield VFW Post # 8274, and the Stanley Cochrane American Legion Post # 16. He enjoyed flowers, gardening, bicycling, and trucks, especially his big blue Ford. He also loved his daughter’s pet dog, “Thomas”. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Surviving are his children, Dixie Lee Frock (Harold) of Marion, Patricia Ann Hooker (Kory) and Robert Lee Insley, Jr. (Margo Lynn), all of Salisbury, Evelyn Maria Cooper of Fruitland, Edward Lee Insley (Kay Tawes), of South Mills, NC, Vernon Edward Smith, Jr. of Fruitland, Michael Henry Smith (Amy) of Parsonsburg; a sister, Myrtle Dorman of Norfolk, VA; brothers, Samuel Insley (Shirley) of Crisfield, and Walter Insley (Frances) of Marion; grandchildren, Geno Thomas, Jr., Angel Goldsborough (Jon), Donnie Thomas, Harold Frock, Jr., Timmy Frock, Brooks Handy, Samantha Hooker, Alexandra Hooker, Robert “Bobby” Insley, III (Heather), Amanda Wallace (Branden), Paul Byington (Rachael), Brittany Lawson, Michael Cooper, Katie Cooper, Ashley Insley, Edward Insley, Jr., Lauren Insley, Hunter Diskin, Amanda Smith, Misty Smith, and Autumn Smith; great-grandchildren, Camren Thomas, Seth Goldsborough, Addison Bozman, Eileen Insley, Anastasia Insley, and Braydon Smith; former sons and daughters-in-law who remained close to him, John T. Handy, III, Beth Clough, Steven, Stephen, Marsha Lynn, and Lonnie.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his former wife, Catherine Swift Smith, who died Nov. 8, 1992; sisters, Ruth Hancock and Pauline Swift; son-in-law, Gene Raymond Thomas; and brother-in-law, B. T. Dorman.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Robert Daniels will officiate. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
